Warning : IFD0 tag 0x0100 ImageWidth is not allowed in JPEG Warning : Fixed incorrect URI for xmlns:MicrosoftPhoto Warning : Non-standard IFD0 tag 0x000b ProcessingSoftware These seem to be the differences between the fixed and the buggy jpgs as reported by exiftool 12.39: But I'm quite sure that my problem is triggered by digikam 7.6.0 if it does an automatic rotation. I don't understand why my buggy jpg fails on (osmc based upon kodi 19.4) while working fine on (also kodi 19.4) and digikam 7.6.0. If I finally copy all exif information back using exiftool that jpg works fine within kodi on raspberry including exif metadata. Now all EXIF metadata are really gone, and the jpg is visible within kodi on my raspberry. I've converted the buggy jpg into tiff and back again into jpeg using imagemagick's convert. Thus I assumed that maybe the picture dimension triggers a memory problem within raspberry. Kodi under linux reports these additional two errorsĭeleting all IPTC tags using exiftool fixed those error messages, but the jpg is still not visible within kodi under osmc on a raspberry. I tried to fix all warnings reported by exiftool - without success. Since this problem only affects my "new" portrait photos rotated by 7.6.0 digikam it might be an issue within digikam, maybe again exiv2? Only kodi 19.4 (osmc) running on a raspberry pi3 fails to render new portraits.Ĭonclusion: Something seems to be "different" within digikam for portrait photos as compared with older digikam versions preventing "some" kodi installations to render them (because probably exif data is not accessible). The "problematic" new portrait jpegs are nevertheless rendered perfectly by digikam. last year (being rotated by some older releases of digikam). I don't have problems with portrait photos taken e.g. If trying to display such pictures within kodi no exif information is shown and the jpeg can't be rendered. If I take a portrait photo with my Sony A77 which is automatically rotated by digikam 7.6.0 it can't be displayed by current kodi 19.4 running on raspberry. ![]() Regards (and thanks for your fast solution!),īut there is still a problem - not within digikam, but within kodi. Do you have any suggestion which exiv2 version would work with digikam 7.6.0? Maybe I've missed one step when I replaced the current libexiv2.so.0.27.5? Then I tried your prerelease 7.7.0 - it resolves my issue.īut for my working digikam workflow I'd prefer to stay with the stable 7.6.0. Sadly digikam fails to start with undefined symbol. After copying the new library into /lib64, I tried to "fool" digikam by linking the new version But I couldn't "convince" digikam 7.6.0 to use the updated library (neither the precompiled nor my compiled version). I fetched the current pre-release exiv 1.0.0.9 from git (both source code and precompiled version). > Not with the version from openSUSE Tumbleweed. > Let's use a git/master version of Exiv2 and it will show all Exif metadata. > In our pre-release digiKam-7.7.0 AppImage from here: (In reply to Maik Qualmann from comment #10) Sadly I couldn't upload a sample jpeg due to the 4MB limit. I don't believe that my camera will include buggy ICC profiles only "sometimes". The standalone exiftool can't see ICC at all (within working jpegs):Įxiftool -icc_profile -b -w icc dsc07875.jpg -> 0 output files createdīut why are only some of my new jpegs affected? I'd guess that some binary part within exif is triggering this problem. To me this is a showstopper in using digikam.īut when trying to load those jpegs using showfoto, I encounter ICC errors likeĭtaengine: Cannot load metadata from file with Exiv2 backend: /run/media/sdcard/disk/DCIM/100MSDCF/DSC07881.JPG (Error # 59 : "corrupted image metadata" Around 50% of all new jpegs are affected. But exiftool can display their exif without any error message. Just after upgrading to digikam 7.6.0 running within current tumbleweed linux now for many (not all!) newly added jpegs from my Sony A77 camera seem to have missing exif information. ![]() I do have a similar problem, but it seems to be independant from ICC (as far as I can tell).

Say your computer is acting up and you call up the help of an IT geek. ITįirst off, remote desktop services are crucial for IT departments and other computer tech repair services. There are many examples of remote access which we should be familiar with in our day to day lives. You need to make sure that the remote computer you want to access is turned on, that their sleep functions won’t kick in, and that they have granted permission (or some form of authentication) to share their screen. You just go to your settings or system preferences and turn these apps on. These days, the remote access apps available make this quite easy to do without remote users needing to know any code. Another term for the process by which data and actions control hosts from clients is TCP, or transmission control protocol. When doing a remote desktop session, where you might be using an RDP client tool to get remote desktop access to an RDP server computer at another endpoint, information and data travels instantly over an internet RDP connection to allow the client to see and control the remote desktop of the host. However, it is sometimes possible with more robust RDP connection software to use them across multiple different operating systems. MacOS computers also have their own remote management sharing tool as well. This is available in many recent premium versions of Windows. For example, one of the best known RDP client software is called Microsoft Remote Desktop (this used to be called Terminal Services). How does remote desktop protocol actually work? First of all, it’s worth noting that RDPs generally function best when both client and host computers are using the same operating system, like Windows, macOS, Linux, Unix, or mobile operating systems like iOS or Android. In other words, RDP is a system which connects computers via an internet connection, allowing one computer (the RDP client) to see what’s going with the other computer (the RDP server host), as well as take over and control its mouse and keyboard functionality. So what is the real definition of RDP? A remote desktop protocol is a method which allows a client computer to access and use a host’s computer or server from another endpoint. It stands for remote desktop protocol, but you likely already knew that part. To get at a simple RDP definition, we can't start by unpacking the acronym. Need more Microsoft app news? Competitors began doing just that though, mostly using online tools (RTM, Toodledo) or Apple’s services. In 2009, that was OK, and it’s funny to think back to how few apps could actually deliver cloud-sync back then. In early versions of Things, it was only possible to sync over WIFI. A real shame, coz Things mac costs US$49.99. The product is developed by Cultured Code, a company that’s both set in it’s ways, and not really renowned for action. ![]() The construction of your mattress - including the number of layers of foam and the type of foam, whether or not it contains springs (now almost universally called coils), and the gauge (or thickness) of those springs - will determine how much support it provides. The result is better motion isolation, pressure relief, and overall support. And according to Brooklyn Bedding COO Tim Dilworth, traditional innerspring constructions have greatly evolved, replacing interlocking springs with “pocketed” steel coils that are individually encased in fabric and can move independently of one another. Thanks to the bed-in-a-box revolution, all-foam mattresses abound, as do hybrid options that combine foam and springs. Today, there is a lot more variety in the mattress landscape. It wasn’t until the 1990s, when Tempur-Pedic first made a mattress using NASA-designed viscoelastic polyurethane foam, that any real technical innovation occurred. Because the springs were all connected, there was a lot of bounciness and motion transfer, and they weren’t especially good for pressure relief. We’ll be testing more mattresses in the future, but for now, here’s our answer to that question about which mattress you should buy.įor decades, most mattresses were filled with interlocking, hourglass-shaped springs designed for uniform support across the surface of the mattress, then topped with batting for comfort. In some cases, for companies that offer more than one mattress design, we tested only one option. If you don’t want to scroll through all of the options, you can click any of the links in the table of contents to jump to their corresponding mattresses - or read on for how we tested and what we looked for.Ī couple of things to note: Unless stated otherwise, the starting prices we’ve listed are for queen-size mattresses. ![]() Still, we hope these reviews provide a baseline for how firm, springy, or cushy a brand’s other products might be. That’s because determining which mattress to buy will always depend on you - your sleeping position, temperature, firmness preference, and budget - and the perfect mattress only becomes obvious once you’ve actually slept on it. But rather than name the “best mattress for everyone,” which we’re convinced doesn’t exist, we set out to judge each on its own terms. All the mattresses here are some of the best-reviewed on the market, so there are no duds. We’ve tested more than 35 mattresses since 2018 and we’re still going strong, with several newer mattress models in our current testing queue. To help make sense of it all, our staff has been testing mattresses ourselves and making note of how they feel to actually sleep on in real life. Meanwhile, the essential question - “What mattress should I buy?” - has become trickier to answer. Since then, the mattress-sphere has only gotten more crowded, with more new brands launching and existing ones rolling out new models and phasing out older ones. So many start-ups had arisen to challenge the likes of Sleepy’s and Tempur-Pedic - Casper, Tuft & Needle, Leesa, and Saatva, among many others. We wrote in 2017 about a golden age of mattresses.
